Two dates decide whether you may drive your car in Latvia: when its OCTA insurance ends and when its roadworthiness test (the state MOT, valsts tehniskā apskate) runs out. Since 01.01.2025 CSDD no longer issues a windscreen sticker, so nothing on the car itself reminds you any more.Divi datumi nosaka, vai drīkstat braukt ar savu auto Latvijā: kad beidzas tā OCTA apdrošināšana un kad beidzas valsts tehniskās apskates derīguma termiņš. When the MOT is dueKad jāveic tehniskā apskate

For a passenger car that was brand new when it was first registered in Latvia, CSDD gives this schedule:Vieglajam auto, kas pirmo reizi reģistrēts Latvijā kā jauns, CSDD norāda šādu kārtību:

• First MOT: no later than 36 months after first registration.Pirmā apskate: ne vēlāk kā 36 mēnešus pēc pirmās reģistrācijas.
• Second, third and fourth: each no later than 24 months after the previous one.Otrā, trešā un ceturtā: katra ne vēlāk kā 24 mēnešus pēc iepriekšējās.
• After that: every year.Pēc tam: katru gadu.

So a new car gets three years, then two-year gaps for a while, and once it is roughly nine years old it goes every year. Motorcycles, trailers, lorries and buses have their own rules. For a used car brought in from abroad, look up its date after registration (see below) instead of counting.Tātad jauns auto saņem trīs gadus, tad kādu laiku divu gadu intervālus, un, kad tas ir aptuveni deviņus gadus vecs, apskate jāveic katru gadu. When the car passes, the new period is counted from the day of the inspection, not from the old expiry date. An MOT done two months early also brings the next one two months forward. There is no need to wait for the last week, but there is no reason to go months ahead either. CSDD explains the exact rules on csdd.lv.Kad auto apskati iztur, jaunais termiņš tiek skaitīts no apskates dienas, nevis no iepriekšējā beigu datuma. Apskate, kas veikta divus mēnešus agrāk, arī nākamo pārceļ divus mēnešus agrāk. Nav jāgaida pēdējā nedēļa, bet nav arī iemesla iet vairākus mēnešus iepriekš. Precīzi noteikumi ir aprakstīti csdd.lv.

OCTA: the date you choseOCTA: datums, ko izvēlējāties pats

OCTA is the compulsory third-party liability insurance. Unlike the MOT, its end date is not set by law: it is whatever period you picked when you bought the policy, so it can fall in any month. If you buy short policies, the date moves every time you renew.OCTA ir obligātā civiltiesiskās atbildības apdrošināšana. Atšķirībā no tehniskās apskates tās beigu datumu nenosaka likums: tas ir atkarīgs no perioda, ko izvēlējāties, pērkot polisi, tāpēc tas var iekrist jebkurā mēnesī. Ja pērkat īsas polises, datums mainās ar katru atjaunošanu.

Driving without valid OCTA or without a valid MOT is an administrative offence and can be fined.
